Thomas, Robin D

Robin died on 5 December 1983.

He was Captain of both his House and the School and also Captain of Rugby.

On leaving school he did two years National Service and was commissioned in the Royal Leicestershire Regiment serving in Sudan and Cyprus. He subsequently became an active member of the Territorial Army retiring in the rank of Captain.
Robin worked in the shoe trade and by his mid-30s was head of Mansfield Shoe Company in Nottingham. He subsequently became Managing Director of the Sileby-based Newbold and Burton shoe manufacturing group’s subsidiaries. In the late seventies he helped to set up the Shutex manufacturing company in Leicester of which he also became Managing Director.

He was a keen sportsman and played for Stonegate Rugby Football club, Leicestershire Tennis Club and North Leicestershire Squash Club.

He was survived by his wife, Frances, and three children Giles, Lucy and Emma.
