Arnold, Eric A P

Eric died on 17 April 1988. On leaving Hurst he went into banking but shortly transferred to the Probation Service in which he served for 40 years in various counties.
He was in a reserved occupation during the war but saw great activity during the Coventry Blitz and during the flying bombs phase in Surrey.

Whilst in Norfolk he was Secretary of Roundtable and was later appointed an Hon Life Vice-President there. He played hockey for the HJs and several local clubs. He was an active churchman, being at times churchwarden and sidesman. He served on the Borough Council in Stratford on Avon for a number of years. He took a keen interest in Youth Club work and served on the Citizens Advice Bureau for most of his working life. On retirement he took up guiding international visitors in Shakespeare’s county.

Eric was a regular visitor to the college and attended many HJ dinners. he was a keen supporter of School developments as he felt that his training at Hurst had been so beneficial to him for the rest of his life.
He was survived by his wife, a son and daughter and two grand-daughters.
